Christianity and Philosophy

Video

absurdism.JPG

The very first thing to know about this video is that its subject matter is not new.  It's premise and conclusions are virtually the same as those found in the book of Eccesiasties which was written about 2500 years ago.  The primary theme of Eccesiasties is that life is vanity.  More than that it is vanity of vanities!  Vanity and absurity mean virtually the same thing.  So Camus did not come up with a whole new philosophy.  He mearly restated an ancient philosophy in different words and concepts.

It should be noted - giving credit where credit is due - this is an excellent video.  Graphics, editing, voice over and subject matter are excellent.  CIP gives 5 stars to the producer of the video even though we will respectfully disagree with its conclusions.

Bullet Points:

1.  Time:  0 to 45 sec

CIP proposes the sense of change is due to the loss of Christian culture.  This change has been developing in the western world for over 50 years, but like a tree that is rotting from the inside, everything looked fine until the wind blew it over.  Then people gathered around the tree and marveled at how it had been rotting away from the inside for so long a time.  The sudden collapes of the culture is not a surprise to serious Christians over the age of 65.  In fact, Christians predicted this outcome 50 years ago.

2. Time:  45 sec to

CIP proposes the disorientation described in this segment always happens with a loss of frame of reference.  Once again, Christian culture was the frame of reference for most people and institutions in the west, going back hundreds of years.  The loss of these reference points of life create a sense of mental disphoria, especially for the younger generations of the population.
